During the Uvalde shooting, an off-duty federal agent’s wife texted him for assist. “I asked my barber if he had a gun,” he mentioned.

"I was acting as a husband and a father," he said.

"First classroom, second classroom, third classroom, saw my daughter," Albarado said. "Aid. Large reduction."

He hugged and kissed her, and soon she was heading to the varsity parking lot.

While Border Patrol agents were on the team that breached the classroom where the gunman was holed up, Albarado wasn't in that group.

"I did not have my gear, and so it wouldn't have been a smart decision for me to get into the building," he said. "I didn't have my vest. A shotgun's not a good enough protection."

During a press conference last week, the top of the Texas Division of Public Security mentioned the varsity district's police chief did not initially ship officers into the classroom the place the gunman was located because he thought it was no longer an active-shooter state of affairs. The U.S. Justice Division is conducting a assessment of the police response.

For his half, Albarado stated he wasn't in a position to evaluate the response.
