SACRAMENTO, Calif. >> A suspect on the run since a mass taking pictures left six individuals dead throughout an alleged gang dispute in California’s capital city final month has been arrested in Las Vegas, authorities said.

Investigators believe Mtula Payton was one of the alleged gang members who opened fire in downtown Sacramento on April 3. He was taken into custody at an house complex, the Sacramento Police Department mentioned in an announcement Saturday night.

“Las Vegas Metro Police Department labored with our detectives for weeks in an effort to find Payton,” the statement mentioned.

It wasn’t recognized Sunday if Payton has an attorney who might speak on his behalf.

Payton and two others, brothers Smiley Martin and Dandrae Martin, were charged this month with murder within the slayings, as well as weapons offenses.

Investigators provided no motive however said in courtroom documents that Smiley Martin and his companions recorded an internet video hours earlier than the capturing, flashing weapons and speaking trash from a location in rival gang territory. In it, they state their plans to move to the downtown area with the intent of opening fireplace.

Three males alleged to be gang members and three ladies who had been harmless bystanders died within the shootout that occurred as patrons of bars and nightclubs emptied out onto downtown streets. A dozen more individuals have been wounded.

The Martin brothers, who were among the wounded, stay jailed. Attorneys for the brothers have but to comment on their charging.

Payton, who police say is a member of a rival gang, was being held in a Nevada jail pending transport back to California.
