Mike Tyson won’t face charges in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district lawyer says

A California district attorney declined to file charges Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police experiences and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no expenses be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its evaluation of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery in opposition to another passenger on an airplane whereas waiting at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe said in an announcement.

"Our choice is that we'll not file any prices in opposition to Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video did not present what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file fees by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement agencies "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
