Students stroll out of colleges in protest of gun violence

Days after a minimum of 19 elementary college students and two teachers had been killed in a mass taking pictures at an elementary faculty in Uvalde, Texas, students at colleges around the country staged walkouts to protest gun violence.

In Michigan, college students at Oxford High Faculty, where a college capturing occurred in November, staged a walkout at 12 p.m. on Thursday. Four college students had been killed within the shooting.

College students at Saugus High College in Santa Clarita, California, also walked out of class, in support of the national gun safety movement. The college was the positioning of a shooting in November 2019, during which two college students were killed.

"You see news day-after-day about children getting shot and other people your age dying and it's simply incredibly unhappy and unbelievable, particularly to see like children younger and children my age," Janoff told ABC Information. "I cant imagine that being me; but it is possible because it occurs so usually."

The 17 year-old says her college's administration was in help of the walkout and she hopes the over 200 planned demonstrations throughout the country send a clear message that college students are a "united front."

A walkout might not essentially change laws, Janoff said, but these actions show "students are still united in this."

She stated that though most students aren't sufficiently old to vote, they still need to see change and are prepared to take measures to have their voices heard in politics.

"College students do not have to be quiet about it simply because they seem to be a child," Janoff stated.
