Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant said its iconic music participant has been replaced by other devices, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, stated: "At this time, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an unimaginable music expertise throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio - there is not any better strategy to get pleasure from, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that permits you to put your total music collection in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he said at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the identical once more."
