Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large mentioned its iconic music player has been replaced by different gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, mentioned: "In the present day, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an unimaginable music expertise across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with help for spatial audio - there's no higher technique to enjoy, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your complete music assortment in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he said at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the identical again."

Comparable MP3 gamers released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the identical success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 versions of its music participant - the Traditional, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod vary lately, with mobile phone know-how enabling prospects to take heed to music services on their phones.

In 2014, the traditional click wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano had been killed off three years later.
