Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music player has been replaced by different gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, stated: "In the present day, the spirit of iPod lives on.

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.
