BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass college shooting that would have included a bombing at Berkeley High College, police say.
The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division mentioned in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful machine materials and threatening to commit a crime which is able to lead to dying or nice bodily injury.
Police said they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a capturing that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence.
Police didn't say if the teenager was a scholar at Berkeley High College.
Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered components to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and digital objects that could possibly be used to create extra weapons.
At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"College security remains a excessive priority for the department," police said in a press release.
Particulars on whom the teen was attempting to recruit weren't disclosed. Police stated this case stays underneath investigation.
Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the school's group that the district was in close contact with police during this investigation.
After police confiscated the teen's weapon elements, the district relied on police experience to evaluate any potential ongoing risk to its schools. The district communicated with police on the student's whereabouts.
"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and safety employees about this investigation and, as is our normal apply, maintained close contact with our BPD School Resource Officer on the Berkeley High School campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation interval, we have been assured that this individual did not pose a right away risk to the Berkeley Excessive College neighborhood."
The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter.
The district might pursue disciplinary action in opposition to the student.
